Matthew Upson has said on BBC Sport that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford was not happy when he was taken off yesterday.

Leeds suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion away from home in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Bamford started the match, but Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa decided to take off the 27-year-old striker in the 59th minute.

It was a disappointing game from the former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest striker, and ex-Arsenal and Brighton central defender Upson noted on BBC Sport that the Leeds star did not look happy as he was getting substituted.

Upson said about Bamford on BBC Sport: “A fair substitution to take Patrick Bamford off. He’s not been involved at all.

“His facial expression as he left the pitch and went straight down the tunnel tells it all. He’s not happy with his performance this afternoon and clearly his manager isn’t either.”

Moving on

Bamford has been brilliant for Leeds this season and has banged in the goals for fun in the Premier League. It was a disappointing performance from him against Brighton, but all players have bad days.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old striker has scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in 34 league games this season.

With Brighton fighting for survival in the Premier League this season, Leeds fans would have expected the team to pick up all three points, but that was not to be.
