Lille coach Christophe Galtier dreams of taking charge of Premier League champions Liverpool one day, his friend Regis Brouard told L’Equipe.

There may be four years remaining on Jurgen Klopp’s contract, but the chances of the charismatic German emulating Sir Alex Ferguson by spending two decades in charge of a North West giant look slim.

Klopp suggested to SWR back in July that his time in the Liverpool dugout will come to an end when his current deal expires in 2024.

As Manchester United fans will tell you, finding a man capable of stepping into the shoes of a managerial deity is easier said than done.

But if Galtier was offered the reins at a six-time European champion, you can bet your bottom dollar that he would seize the opportunity with both hands.

“We graduated together (after earning our coaching badges),” Brouard explained.

“When you graduate, you have to do a week of internship abroad. He did it in Liverpool. His dream is to coach Liverpool.”

54-year-old Galtier is one of the most respected figures in French football.

A living legend at St Etienne after eight years in charge of Les Verts, the blue-eyed boss also led a thrilling Lille side containing Nicolas Pepe and Rafael Leao to second in Ligue 1, earning the division’s Manager of the Year award in 2019.

If he can find a way to knock PSG off their gilded perch between now and 2024, Galtier might just find himself sitting alongside Steven Gerrard on Liverpool’s post-Klopp shortlist.
