Everton striker Neal Maupay’s confidence is “shot to pieces”, says former Premier League forward Chris Sutton.
Neal Maupay once again failed to get his name on the scoresheet in Everton‘s 1-0 defeat against Fulham last weekend, and Sutton thinks Sean Dyche is only playing him right now because he has no other real options.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton said: “Maupay, I mean I’ve been there myself, his confidence is shot to pieces. You know, it really is. I feel sorry for him.
“He hesitates, he doesn’t have faith in his ability, scored a few goals at Brighton and has gone to Everton and it hasn’t worked out. I’m sure Dyche doesn’t really want to play him, but he hasn’t got many options.”
Maupay has registered just once for Everton since joining the Merseyside club last summer.
Neal Maupay and Everton should go their separate ways
Maupay has certainly struggled during his time at Goodison Park, but he is not a bad striker.
The Frenchman was a threat at his former side Brighton, managing to reach double figures for goals in the Premier League back in the 2019/20 season.
For whatever reason, he has just not been able to find any kind of form at Everton. All in all, both parties are suffering here and a parting of the ways could be what is best for everyone.

Maupay cannot be solely to blame for Everton’s struggles in attack, though.
In the last campaign, the Toffees only managed to score 34 goals in the top flight. Others need to chip in and not just rely on the 27-year-old or whoever is playing up front to find the back of the net for the team.
Everton have brought in Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal, so Dyche will be hoping that he can help his side’s blunt attack become much more sharper this term and the Toffees to stay away from the relegation zone.
