Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are actively trying to tie Fabinho down to a new contract.
The Brazilian has been a monstrous player for the Reds since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2018.
But with only two years left on his existing deal at Liverpool, the club’s hierarchy are seemingly determined to give him an extension.
That is according to Italian journalist Romano, who claimed on his Here We Go podcast that Fabinho’s agents are waiting for the Premier League champions to get in touch.
He said: “Talks are going to start for Fabinho to extend his contract. Fabinho wants to extend his contract and I’m convinced he’s going to talk with Liverpool to extend his contract. His agents are waiting for a call from Liverpool.”
Romano, who got a lot of transfer-related claims spot-on during the summer months, also revealed that the Liverpool midfielder was the subject of a bid from an unnamed Spanish club, but that the player is ‘so happy’ with his life on Merseyside right now.
He added: “The situation is so calm because he had a bid, last summer, from a top club in Spain, and he decided to stay at Liverpool.”
Fabinho is nursing a minor injury right now after coming off in the first half against Midtjylland last week.
He was playing as a makeshift centre-back due to injuries to Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.
This is a massively important player for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and it isn’t surprising in the slightest that they’re trying to tie him down.
