Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Gabriel Martinelli has been ‘one of the best’ in the Premier League this season, alongside Manchester City’s goalscoring freak, Erling Haaland, as he told MOTDx.
The Manchester City striker has 15 Premier League goals from nine matches, and whilst Jenas thinks ‘you might as well give the Player of the Year trophy’ to Haaland right now, he thinks, in terms of performances, Arsenal’s superstar on the left can be talked alongside the former Borussia Dortmund man.
At 21, Martinelli is enjoying the best start to his career and producing form which has helped Mikel Arteta’s side sit at the top of the Premier League table.

The Brazil international, who was plucked from the lower leagues of his home nation in 2019 when Unai Emery was in the Emirates dugout, has scored four and assisted two in the Premier League this term.
That also included finding the back of the net and assisting during his side’s win against Liverpool last week – now Haaland will face the same side, this time on Sunday at Anfield.
The Gunners are one point ahead of second-placed Man City, and if they beat Leeds in the early kick-off, added with the Reds doing them a favour hour later, then that gap could be four points.
Either way, when discussing Martinelli’s performances this season, former Tottenham midfielder Jenas was sure to big up the all-action forward.
“Arguably been one of the best players in the league so far,” said Jenas. “Him and Haaland. If you were going to do like a Player of the Year so far, then Haaland, you might as well give him the trophy now.
“Martinelli would be around that conversation, I would say.”

CAN YOU HAND OUT AWARDS IN OCTOBER?
Unless Haaland falls off a cliff or morphs into Ali Dia, he should hit a record-breaking number of goals this season and walk away with numerous trophies.
From what Man City should win, such as a possible sixth Premier League title in five. Is Germany the farmer’s league? To being the top-scorer in the division.
If all of that happens, as expected, then he will also be walking away with all the main awards.
And whilst someone like Martinelli can get into double figures this season, in terms of goals and assists, it will probably end up looking average because of what Haaland might end up producing.
