Rangers are reportedly one of nine clubs in the race to sign midfielder Nicolas Raskin with the player demoted to his club’s reserve team after rejecting a new deal – and the youngster is better off moving to Ibrox, than Barcelona.

Raskin, 21, has nine clubs on his tail. Voetbal Nieuws report that Rangers and Barcelona are two of those nine clubs looking at a move for Raskin. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but has rejected Liege’s offer.

The midfielder has quite the reputation. He is just four appearances shy of clocking up a century of senior outings with Liege, and has five caps for Belgium’s U21 side. Belgian journalist Bob Faesen told The Herald that Raskin is a ‘pitbull’.

But if Raskin is to continue that reputation, to push his meteoric rise in Europe more so, he needs to continue playing regular football. A club that are on the European stage. He needs to find a club that can offer him both ingredients.

Raskin better off moving to Rangers than Barcelona in January

A move to Barcelona would see Raskin go from main man, to back-up player. He would get the odd substitute appearance at best, perhaps playing in cup games. Barca have an array of talent in their midfield, some of the best.

Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie, Pedri, Gavi, Sergio Busquets and more. It would be a similar story for Raskin at the likes of Fiorentina, Marseille, Leeds and some of the other nine clubs. But at Ibrox, he would instantly become first choice.

His aggression, his creativity, his tenacity is just what Michael Beale is lacking in midfield. Given his contract is due to expire at the end of the season, it is unclear how much Liege would sell him for next summer. But Ibrox is ideal.

It would give Raskin the platform big enough to shine and garner more interest in his services, notably from the Premier League. Champions League football, most likely, next season. He would continue to be the main man.
