Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has spoken with PSV Eindhoven this week to let the Eredivisie giants know that he wants to seal a transfer before the sales slam shut.

That is according to ED, which claims that PSV remain interested in Branthwaite returning to the Philips Stadion. Everton sent the 21-year-old on loan to Boeren last term and he enjoyed a successful spell in the Netherlands. But Sean Dyche is yet to give him a chance this term.

Branthwaite has only watched on from Dyche’s bench as Everton started their 2023/24 term with back-to-back defeats. Michael Keane partnered James Tarkowski at home to Fulham as the Toffees lost 1-0. The pair also then opened the action as the Blues lost 4-0 at Aston Villa.

Branthwaite has told PSV that he wants to secure a transfer

Ben Godfrey sat beside Branthwite on Dyche’s bench to give Everton extra cover at centre-half in their two games yet. And even after opening the season with back-to-back defeats, it is unlikely that Dyche now starts Branthwaite when Wolves visit Goodison Park on Saturday.

So, Branthwaite has contacted PSV to state his interest in returning in a permanent transfer from Everton. He would ‘very much like’ to don the Boeren jersey again if the two clubs can agree on a fee. But the Toffees are likely to price the Eindhoven team out of a last-gasp deal.

Everton rejected a £15m bid from PSV in the January window

Everton are demanding considerably more than €10m (£8.5m) and PSV would need to grant a major sale to afford that. The Daily Mail also reported in February that the Toffees rejected a £15m bid from Boeren for the centre-half. PSV sought to strike a deal in the January sales.

Goodison Park chiefs scoffed at the bid as Branthwaite was also the subject of interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Roma. But despite the Carlisle native helping England win the U21 Euros and Lee Carsley calling him ‘high quality’, Dyche has only kept him in reserve.
