Hibs legend David Gray has announced his retirement from playing after seven years at Easter Road, taking up a role in Jack Ross’ coaching staff in Leith.
Gray famously scored the winner in the 2016 Scottish Cup final that ended a 114-year wait for the Hibees to lift the trophy to write his name into Easter Road history.
Hibs boss Jack Ross has been keen to help senior players at the club transition into coaching roles and is looking forward to working closely with his former on-pitch lieutenant.
“I am delighted to welcome Dave to the coaching team at the club,” Ross told Hibs’ official website.
“Throughout my time here, he has demonstrated brilliant leadership qualities and a desire to learn about the game from a tactical and man management perspective.
“I am excited about helping Dave with the next stage of his career, and look forward to him assisting the staff and myself in raising demands, standards and achievements throughout the season ahead.”
‘Privilege and honour’

The new Hibs coach was delighted to get started in his new role as he paid tribute to the players he worked alongside during his time at Easter Road.
Gray also thanked the Hibs fans as he called an end to his playing career, calling the chance to captain hibs a “privilege and honour.”
“It’s been an absolute privilege and honour to play for, and captain, Hibernian,” said Gray.
“Now it’s time for me to take the next step in my career and I’d like to thank the gaffer and the club for this opportunity.
“I also want to thank all the players I’ve played with throughout my time and also a massive thank you to all the supporters for all the support they have given me.”
