Hibs defender Hanlon makes interesting remark about Rangers’ promotion

Rangers recently won promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

Hibernian’s Paul Hanlon has refused to believe that Rangers’ financial clout was responsible for their promotion and instead has insisted that his side’s own poor form was the main factor, the Scottish Sun report.

Rangers clinched automatic promotion to the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday night with four games to spare thanks to a 1-0 win over Dumbarton at Ibrox in the Scottish Championship.

Hibs were widely regarded as the Gers’ leading challengers for promotion this term, but Mark Warburton’s side have coasted to the first division title and in some fashion too.

Commenting on the Glasgow club’s achievements, Hanlon suggested to the Scottish Sun that Rangers benefited from Hibs’ own poor form more than anything.

“I don’t think from our point of view it was anything that Rangers did – it has been more us dropping points than anything else. We need to move on now. The title is gone and our main aim is promotion,” he told the Scottish Sun.

Rangers are on course to breaking the 90-point barrier, a figure Hearts also reached last season.

It would have taken something special from Hibs to reach such a tally, although one area which they will look at come May will be the two defeats at Ibrox which handed Rangers an early advantage.

The Edinburgh side could still join Mark Warburton’s men in the top flight come the end of the season, although they will now have to do it the hard way through the dreaded playoff finals.
