The Scotland U21 forward is exactly the type of player some Forest fans have been clamouring for in the past.

Nottingham Forest fans should be delighted following reports from the Scottish Sun that Hibernian striker Jason Cummings is on the verge of signing for the Reds, as this has all the makings of a really smart deal from a Forest perspective.

The 21-year-old striker, who has represented Scotland at U21 level nine times – scoring on three occasions – rattled in 23 goals last season as Hibernian won the Scottish Championship, and has scored an impressive 71 goals in 150 appearances for the club.

While the standard in the Scottish Premiership is dubious to say the least – let alone the Scottish Championship – when you consider just how young Cummings is, this signing (if completed) represents a very clever recruitment approach from the Reds, which is in stark contrast to their scatter gun tactic last summer.

Cummings clearly knows where the net is and while the club have a limited budget this season due to Financial Fair Play regulations, Sky Sports believe the figure is around the £1m mark – which represents a low risk transfer for the club in so many ways.

If Cummings does well, it’ll look like a huge bargain all things considered, and due to his age, the re-sale factor is decent – Forest are looking to sign a talented, hungry young player which they’ve often neglected in favour of signing older heads with little left in the tank.

On the flip side, if Cummings doesn’t do well, it’s not the end of the world as the fee involved is minimal compared to some of Forest’s recent transfer expenditure. It’s a win-win situation all round, and fans should be ecstatic that under Mark Warburton, the club will strive to no longer be reckless in the transfer market.
