Watford veteran Heurelho Gomes gives his verdict on the sad end to an otherwise brilliant season for the Hornets.

Heurelho Gomes has given his thoughts about Watford’s season, the team and their fans on the club’s official website.

Watford’s incredible comeback against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the semi-final of the FA Cup came to nothing after a 6-0 battering against Manchester City in the final.

The Hornets enjoyed a brilliant season in the Premier League where they recorded their best ever tally with 50 points and finished just two points off of a top-half finish. Javi Gracia’s side overcame the likes of Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and Wolves to reach the final and the loss shouldn’t take anything away from a remarkable season.

The defeat could potentially be Gomes’ last game in a Watford shirt and watching six goals fly by him wouldn’t have been the end he would have hoped for. But the Brazilian was proud of his team’s performances this season and insisted that they will only grow.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Gomes said: “We will go again. Maybe it will be even harder to get to the final next time but it is possible.

“We just need to keep going as a club, to keep growing as a club. We are still growing.

“Of course, the result is hard to take but we faced one of the best sides in the world. It has been an amazing journey. No one will forget the comeback against Wolves.”

The veteran shot-stopper revealed how proud he was of his side and their fans this season and claimed that this campaign has been better than any other.

“What you can expect from this club is that we will keep going. We are fighters. We will get better. This season has been better than all the others so what I expect is us to carry on growing.

“I am so proud. I am so proud of what we have done this season. And I am so proud of our support. They were amazing until the end, until the final minutes, singing all the way through. That shows we are together.”

Gomes’ contract with the Hornets will expire this summer and the Brazilian is expected to leave the club after making 157 appearances for them in all competitions.

The veteran, despite the defeat, will leave the club with his head held high after being an incredible servant at Vicarage Road for the last five years.
