The Tottenham Hotspur attacker committed his future to the club last week.
Tottenham star Heung-Min Son spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, after signing a new long-term deal with the club, and offered high words of praise for the Spurs fans, insisting that he would be nothing without them.
The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £18 million, and despite a slow start to life in north London, he has now truly established himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Son has racked up an impressive 47 goals and 26 assists in 140 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, and that was obviously enough to convince Spurs that he was worth of a new deal.
The South Korean put pen to paper on a new contract last week – one that runs until the summer of 2023, and he spoke to the club’s official website in the aftermath of agreeing fresh terms with Tottenham, praising the club’s fans for backing him every step of the way:
“Without the fans, I’m a very small player. They support me home and away, it doesn’t matter where I am, when I play for South Korea in the World Cup they support me. I’m really thankful for that. I want to give that back on and off the pitch. When I see the fans, I’m really happy, when they see me and I see the kids and they are smiling, I’m smiling as well. I know how this feels. The fans are amazing and I hope next season, with the new stadium, the fans will be amazing again. I’m so excited to play there, to get three points and celebrate together with the fans.”
Tottenham are expected to challenge for major honours this season, and if they are to have any chance of ending their 10-year wait for a trophy, Son will undoubtedly have to be at his very best.
