Tottenham Hotspur star didn’t get close to beating Lionel Messi, but he had a handful of votes.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane received a handful of votes for the world’s best player award.
Lionel Messi triumphed, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk to the honour.
A closer look at the full voting list shows how Harry Kane received votes from the club captains of Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea. [AS]
The South Korean skipper who voted for him was none other than his Tottenham teammate Heung Min Son.
Tottenham fans will no doubt be delighted to see Son’s loyalty towards his colleague.
Son voted for Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk in second place, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Van Dijk received a vote from his own Liverpool teammate, Scotland captain Andrew Robertson, who named him as number one in his top three. Kane did not make his list, which was completed by Frenkie de Jong and Reds teammate Sadio Mane.
Kane would probably admit he didn’t deserve the vote, having missed several key months of the season last year, with Spurs reaching the Champions League final without him, where Van Dijk got the better of him.
