Mauricio Pochettino must work out how to get more consistent performances from Heung-Min Son.
Heung-Min Son showed he is a player for the big occasion as he helped Tottenham blitz Liverpool in a thrilling 4-1 victory.
Son scored Tottenham’s second goal in the win, doubling his tally for the season.
Both of goals have come in big matches, impressive home victories against Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, in which Spurs won by a combined 7-2 scoreline.
The draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu aside, these are Tottenham’s two best performances of the season, and Son has played a major part.
He is a X factor who can transform Tottenham’s attack in becoming more potent, more unpredictable, and less reliant on Harry Kane.
The problem is, that aside from his goals in these two matches, Son has contributed little else all season.
He has 12 total appearances, and just the two goals and no assists. But a lack of production aside, he has not played well in the games he was not scoring.
The match with Bournemouth a week earlier was a case in point, where he was substituted after 75 minutes in which he did not create any chances nor threaten the goal.
Tottenham’s formation changes have not helped him, but Son has proved firmly against Liverpool and Dortmund that he is a very important member of the squad.
He remains an enigma for head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who needs to get him to be more consistent. Displays like Sunday’s should be the norm for Son, and not simply saved for a special occasion.
