Paul Merson has shared how Son Heung-min looked ‘well-shaken’ when he went off injured during Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

In the first half, with the game goalless, Merson shared how Son seemed to have injured his cheekbone and was forced off injured.

Yves Bissouma was the man brought on in his place, with Antonio Conte’s side having to weather a serious storm during that first period, including former Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba opening the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

Even though Spurs were a key attacker short and losing 1-0, they came out for the second half like a completely different team and they turned the game on its head.

It would have provided Son with a lot of comfort to watch Clement Lenglet equalise on home soil, before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg raced through and finished off the game like a seasoned veteran in stoppage-time and book Tottenham’s’ name into the next round.

But perhaps one worry was the injury to Kane, especially with the 2022 World Cup around the corner and a crucial tie against Liverpool coming up, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports News.

“I think he has done his cheekbone in my opinion,” said Merson. “He doesn’t look right. It looks like it had swollen up and he’s well-shaken.

“I can’t see him being able to come back on during this game – it’s not good news for Tottenham with Son going off and, hopefully, it’s not a bad injury.”

TOTTENHAM MOMENTUM

The most important thing with Son is that it’s not a muscle injury, but a facial injury, or so it seems.

If that’s the case, then it can probably be solved with the £22 million superstar (Guardian) having to wear a protective face mask of some sort.

Either way, this win and progression into the knockout stages should provide Spurs with serious comfort heading into the next few fixtures before the break for the World Cup.

They have a very important Premier League clash against Liverpool at the weekend, before kicking off their League Cup campaign and then facing Leeds United before jetting-off to Qatar.
