Tim Sherwood has lauded Cristian Romero for how well he has ‘really settled’ into Tottenham, as he told Premier League Productions (20/03/22 at 6:55 pm).

Signed up when Nuno Espirito Santo was in the Tottenham dugout, Sherwood thinks Romero has been a ‘major plus’ for the club.

Tottenham have needed reinforcements to their backline following the departures of two former favourites in Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

And it seems as though they have found a superstar for the future because Romero, 23, has been outstanding from the moment he stepped foot into English football.

Sherwood likes the ‘very aggressive’ nature in which Romero defends, as he proved up against Michail Antonio yesterday when Spurs beat West Ham 3-1.

“I think a special mention has to go to Romero in there,” said Sherwood. “I think he’s fantastic. He’s really settled into the Premier League.

“I think when someone comes off, he’s very aggressive in his defending. He is a major plus for this Tottenham side.”

Whilst Tottenham’s form has been up and down of late, there have been many positives to come from Antonio Conte’s reign.

At the end of the day, the Italian wants to find his best XI from this current crop of players, then use the transfer market to fill in the gaps and add much-needed depth.

Romero, alongside Eric Dier, are making themselves known at the back, but it’s a case of who will partner them in a back three in the long term?

There are players in the squad who have the chance to step up, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if the north London club dips into the market for this one because it’s an important cog in Conte’s wheel moving forward.
