Tony Cascarino has claimed Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte must ‘see something’ in Adama Traore.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker is widely reported to be joining Tottenham this month.
Both Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic have claimed that Spurs will be signing the Spain international before the transfer window shuts.
As far as athleticism goes, nobody in the Premier League comes close to Traore.
With an abundance of speed and a freakish amount of strength, the former Barcelona player has proven a handful for many defences in English football.
However, his statistics seldom reflect that.
This season, the 25-year-old has managed only one goal and zero assists from 23 outings across all competitions and, honestly, his numbers weren’t that much better in previous campaigns.
And Cascarino has said on talkSPORT that despite being a player with ‘devastating’ physical attributes, he has a question mark over his output.
He said: “When he’s at his explosive best, he’s unbelievable. If you’re watching him and you are thinking ‘this guy is so quick, this guy is devastating’.
“His numbers are terrible, which is always concerning. He’s got one [goal] this season and you’re thinking how has he only got one goal so far? I know he had one chalked off yesterday. Antonio Conte must see something that will get his numbers to be far better.”
Potential
That’s what Conte sees in Traore – the potential.
The Italian is as good a man-manager as anybody in football and he’ll feel confident that he can utilise Traore’s physical stats.
Cascarino is right – Traore is a devastating prospect for Premier League defences and if the Tottenham manager can harness that, and optimise it, well he could cause absolute chaos.
