Speaking to OTB, Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Liverpool’s right-back problem after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury.
The full-back has picked up a problem that has forced him to withdraw from the England squad, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be back in time for Liverpool’s next game against Watford.
The Reds don’t have an obvious deputy for Alexander-Arnold at the moment. Joe Gomez played at right-back against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, and while Lawrenson doesn’t mind Gomez playing there, he’s suggested that Kostas Tsimikas could be used on that side.
What’s been said?
Lawrenson spoke about the situation at right-back.
“You know, when he first came into the team under Brendan Rodgers, he played left back if memory serves me right, so I don’t have an issue with him, I think he’s a better defender that Trent, he doesn’t give you what Trent gives you going forward, but that’s not a great issue in Liverpool’s team because they have so many creative players anyway,” Lawrenson said.
“Tsimikas as well, he’s two-footed. He could play right-back if you really wanted him to,”

Not a bad idea
This really isn’t a bad idea from Lawrenson.
Of course, ideally, Alexander-Arnold would be back for the Watford game, but if he isn’t, Tsimikas may be a better option than Gomez.
As Lawrenson says, the left-footer is actually very good with his right, and he would provide a lot more attacking threat than Gomez, and, with all due respect, Watford shouldn’t pose too many attacking issues for Liverpool.
Of course, against Manchester City it’s a different story, but for the Reds’ next game, Tsimikas being fielded at right-back could work.
