Speaking on the All To Play for Podcast, Joe Cole has been full of praise for Everton’s Jordan Pickford after his stellar showings for England at the Euros.

Pickford has come under fire quite a lot in recent years due to the odd mistake here and there, but it now seems as though he’s really gotten his act together.

Indeed, Pickford has arguably been England’s best player at the Euros so far, and Cole has noticed a difference in him both physically and mentally.

What’s been said?

Cole had nothing but good things to say about Pickford.

“Pickford, people were questioning who was going to be the number one, I think he’s been fantastic Pickford, he’s been stunning. Whatever he’s been doing in the last six months in the sense of his personality and his mindset, he’s been working with a sports psychologist, you can see it, he gives you an air of calm, and people moan about him taking too long on the ball, but he’s so composed, he brings the calmness now. I think he’s looked like he’s trimmed down as well, he’s so athletic,” Cole said.

Physical and mental changes

Pickford’s career looked to be heading in the wrong direction at one point, but now he’s right back up there with the best goalkeepers in the country.

As Cole says, he’s gone through a physical and mental transformation, and it’s done him the world of good.

He looks to be in great shape, and he seems so much calmer on the pitch than he ever used to be.

It looks as though England finally have a reliable number one between the sticks.
