Kevin Campbell has praised Arsenal’s recruitment team for the signing of Gabriel after his performance against Manchester United.
The Gunners legend was speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, and he couldn’t say enough good things about the Brazilian.
Arsenal kept another clean sheet against the Red Devils on Sunday evening, and Campbell was impressed by the London club’s backline, first praising Rob Holding before beginning to wax lyrical about Gabriel.
“But Gabriel, I mean, whoever is on this recruitment. Arteta and Edu and whoever else, they’ve picked an absolute gem,” Campbell said.
“He is an absolute gem at twenty-odd million pounds. I’m sure if you put him on the market now you’d have to pay fifty up.
“But we’re not selling him. He’s too good. He was awesome, physical, strong, quick, gets stuck in and puts his head in where it hurts, and he’s a bully, I love that he’s bullying the strikers, he’s letting them know. Gabriel was awesome.”

You can understand exactly why Campbell was gushing over the summer signing, he has completely transformed Arsenal’s defence, with the Gunners now boasting the best defensive record in the division.
Campbell wasn’t the only pundit to notice the defender’s performance, with Gary Neville also lauding his showing against United.
Of course, it’s still early days for Gabriel, and Campbell’s claim of him being worth over £50m may be a little pre-emptive after just six Premier League appearances.
However, if he keeps up this form it may not be long before you’re looking at that sort of valuation.
Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping that he can keep this form up as their backline will need to be strong if their attack is going to continue to falter.
The north London outfit have netted just nine Premier League goals this season, the second-fewest of any team in the top half, but their astute defensive showings have seen them remain in the hunt for a European spot.
