Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been talking about Manchester City’s Ruben Dias.
The Portuguese centre-half is undoubtedly one of the best defenders on the planet, but unfortunately for City, he’s been out of action for quite some time.
Dias will, of course, miss this Sunday’s crucial game against Liverpool, and Carragher believes that’s a massive blow for City, claiming that Dias is their leader at the back in a similar way to Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.
What’s been said?
Carragher spoke about Dias and his importance to this City team.
“I think Dias being out is a big blow for Manchester City, I think he’s a fantastic player, I think he’s sort of the closest thing to van Dijk in some ways, he’s their leader at the back,” Carragher said.

Huge
The fact that Dias isn’t fit for this game against Liverpool could be absolutely massive.
Carragher compared Dias’ importance to van Dijk’s, and Liverpool’s drop-off in form without the Dutchman last season was steep.
City, of course, have the luxury of a lot of depth, and Aymeric Laporte and John Stones are more than capable replacements, but in terms of defensive ability, they’re not as good as Dias.
If City lose this title race, Dias’ absence in this run-in will undoubtedly be one of the biggest talking points when all is said and done.
