Speaking on US TV station ESPN, Craig Burley has been full of praise for Newcastle’s signing of Bruno Guimaraes in the January transfer window.

The Magpies, despite now being the richest club in the world, struggled to really attract any superstar names in January, but Guimaraes may be the most exciting addition to the squad.

Indeed, the Brazilian was an absolute star in Ligue 1, and he was even being chased by the likes of Arsenal.

Burley is a big fan of the midfielder, claiming that this signing was a great piece of business for the Tyneside outfit.

What’s been said about Guimaraes?

Burley was blown away by this signing.

“The signing from France, the Brazilian boy, he’s the one for me,” Burley said.

“In that midfield, the Brazilian, he is a player, he has got a bit of everything, he’s got a great touch, he’s aggressive, he defends, he has a nice eye for a pass. He’s what I would call an all-round midfielder, and to sign a player of that ilk in the position that they’re in, that’s great business.”

Jewel in the crown

Newcastle made a number of signing in January, but Guimaraes may well prove to be the best of the bunch.

Yes, the likes of Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Chris Wood have Premier League experience, but Guimaraes has that something else entirely.

The Brazilian will bring a level of continental flair to the United squad, and if he can help the Magpies’ midfield improve, they’ll have a great chance of staying up.
