Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has given his view on Martin Odegaard’s start to life at Arsenal.

Much like the majority of Arsenal fans, Wright has been mightily impressed by what he’s seen from Odegaard so far, but he can’t help but feel an element of sadness when watching him, knowing that he may not be here beyond this summer.

“I’ve got to say, watching Odegaard play for Arsenal makes me so happy and so sad. Simply because when you look at Odegaard’s contribution, I was watching that West Ham game, thinking this is going to be different. He’s got Soucek and Rice, he’s going to be in an area where he’s got some real ballers in there with him. Before the game I said I wanted to see how he does, and not only did he excel, but we went 3-0 down and the man is just showing up,” Wright said.

“On the half turn, his quick thinking, his passing, as soon as he gets it he knows what he’s doing. We have to find a way to sign him, I don’t know how it’s going to happen, I don’t know how it’s going to happen Carl. He’s the one.”

We can understand why Wright feels sad when watching Odegaard.

Loan players can often bring about these mixed emotions, they’re fantastic servants for the time they’re at the club, but at the end of the season, they’re gone, often never to play for the club ever again.

Luckily, Arsenal believe the Norwegian may be open to staying beyond the end of the season, so Wright may end up getting his wish.
