The Sun pundit Danny Higginbotham has chosen Sheffield Wednesday’s Kieran Lee as his latest Football League gem.
Lee has only played eight times in 2017, owing to various hip problems, and made his latest comeback in Wednesday’s 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
The midfielder assisted the Owls’ second goal in that game and scored the third himself, before helping his side to a 2-1 win against Brentford three days later – playing the full 90 minutes after convincing head coach Carlos Carvalhal he was in fact fit to play.

With Lee in the team, Wednesday have only lost once in normal time this calendar year, and writing in his ‘Next Higg Thing’ column on Friday, Higginbotham identified the 29-year-old as the player Carvalhal’s side ‘have been missing’.
“He is a is a box-to-box midfielder and the timing of his runs into the penalty area is superb,” said the former Sheffield United defender.
“Wednesday play with two up top and the fact Lee likes to run beyond the opposition defence adds to their threat.
“He adds energy and pressing when his side are not on the ball.
“Lee is the complete package for Wednesday.”

Higginbotham and Lee both came through the ranks at Manchester United, although Higginbotham was long gone by the time the Tameside native made his Red Devils debut in 2007.
Lee has also spent time at Queens Park Rangers and Oldham Athetic, from whom he moved to Wednesday five years ago.
