Michael Owen has said that if he was in charge of England he would be building his whole side around Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Speaking live to Premier League productions, Owen claimed that Gareth Southgate should be placing far more trust in the Villa playmaker.

And he now believes that Grealish should be central to England’s plans going forward.

“Grealish we’ve known for a long time. The only person who doesn’t rate him as much as we do is the England manager,” Owen said.

“If I was the England manager I’d be building the team around him, I think he’s that good!”

Villa fans are likely to fully agree with Owen’s statement, as they have been furious with Southgate’s treatment of their star man.

Grealish has been consistently overlooked by England, despite the Three Lions desperately lacking creativity in many of their recent matches.

The Villa captain is at least in the current England squad, but it remains to be seen just how much game time he will be given over the current international break.

England face games against Ireland, Belgium and Iceland – and Grealish will hope to be given a chance to prove his worth for his country again.
