Speaking on the LadBible TV YouTube channel, Alan Shearer has been discussing Kieran Trippier and his role in this England team.

Trippier is undoubtedly one of the most in-form and most talented English players heading into this World Cup, but due to the sheer amount of competition at full-back within this squad, he’s far from a guaranteed starter.

However, Shearer says that no matter what he’d try to find a place for Trippier in this team, be that at right-back or at left-back, claiming that the Newcastle star is ‘brilliant’ and better defensively than many of his counterparts.

Shearer’s Trippier praise

The Newcastle legend spoke highly of the former Tottenham man.

“Trippier. I would find a place for Trippier in the team at right-back or left-back because he’s that good. He’s brilliant, he’s been a gamechanger for Newcastle. He’s better than Walker defensively, better than Trent defensively and better than James defensively. He scores set-pieces. He can put the ball on the money from corners, and that’s why I’d have him in the team,” Shearer said.

Deserves a spot

Shearer is making a big claim about Trippier being better than the likes of Walker and Alexander-Arnold, but based on current form, he’s right.

Unlike Alexander-Arnold, Trippier hasn’t put a foot wrong this season, and while Walker may be more defensively sound, Trippier has a better delivery than tha Manchester City man and he’ll be sharper due to Walker’s recent injury concerns.

Of course, things can change during the course of the tournament, but, in our view, Trippier may have to go into Qatar as England’s first choice at right-back.

The Newcastle man has been brilliant, and as Shearer says, he deserves to be playing for England.
