Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Andreas Sondergaard is training with Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team squad on a daily basis, U23 coach James Collins has told the club’s official website.
In 2018, the arrival of a 17-year-old goalkeeper from Odense Boldklub flew under the radar.
But fast forward to the present day and, while Sondergaard has yet to make his first-team debut at Molineux, the teenage shot-stopper is starting to look like another inspired piece of business from a club that continues to ace the transfer market.
The giant Dane is one of the most exciting young goalkeepers in England, with his superb performances for the reserves catching the eye of Nuno himself.
“He’s a terrific professional. He trains down with the first team every day and you can see his improvement from that. But he enjoys coming and getting his game time with us,” Collins said after Sondergaard kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over Fulham U23s.

“He always comes back and is very good with the other boys. He’s always respectful and does what you ask of him, so I’m delighted he kept a clean sheet.”
Unfortunately for Sondergaard, one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Europe is currently standing between the sticks at Molineux. And there’s no reason to doubt Rui Patricio, at 32, has five or six years left at the top level.
But the only other senior shot-stopper at Wolves’ disposal, John Ruddy, is due to become a free agent in the summer.
Could Sondergaard be about to make the step up to become Nuno’s second choice?
