Steve McClaren is the second favourite with the bookies to be named Birmingham manager but the fans really don’t want him.
Nigel Pearson (L) watches from the stands during the Premier League match between Everton and Manchester City.
With Nigel Pearson having been appointed as manager of Belgian second tier side OH Leuven the odds of Steve McClaren being named new Birmingham City boss have been slashed.
McClaren is now the 11/4 second favourite behind Aitor Karanka to be Harry Redknapp’s successor, with Redknapp sacked last weekend following the 3-1 Championship home defeat to Preston North End.
Steve McClaren during his time as manager of Derby County.
The former England chief is currently working as a coach with Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv alongside their manager Jordi Cruyff.
McClaren has been out of a number one job in the dugout since being sacked by Derby County for a second time in March. The 56-year-old has been dismissed from his last three jobs since 2013, with Derby (first time around) and Newcastle United also giving him the boot.
It should therefore perhaps come as little surprise that Blues fans are less than enthusiastic about McClaren being appointed as Redknapp’s replacement.
This is despite the fact that he has had previous success against the odds by winning the League Cup with Middlesbrough in 2004 and the Eredivisie title with FC Twente in 2010.
