Tottenham Hotspur fans now feel assured that Sergio Reguilon is staying, after his comments to Sky Sports.
Reguilon has made a brilliant initial impression at Tottenham, where his performances have caught the eye.
However, there has been a feeling among Spurs fans that they can’t get too attached to their new left-back as Real Madrid have a buy-back clause.
The clause means that Spurs are powerless to resist if Madrid make a sizeable offer for the 23-year-old in the future.
But Reguilon’s comments have offered Tottenham fans hope that he may stay, even if Madrid do try and sign him back.
“Real Madrid is the club where I was made, the club where I grew up, and I would be nothing without them,” he said.
“Leaving was a difficult step to take but it’s one you have to take at one point or another and, for me, I think it was the right time. It’s tough to leave your family and everything, but this league, for me, is the best in the world and I am very happy here. Now I just want to focus on trying to help this club win trophies.”
And the reaction to the quotes has been very positive from Tottenham supporters.
Reguilon actually didn’t feature for Spurs last night, in their 1-0 victory over Burnley.
However, he is likely to be back in Jose Mourinho’s side’s squad on Thursday, when Tottenham take on Antwerp in the Europa League.
