There are a few very rare occurrences in football.
An outfield player going in goal, a goalkeeper scoring, a goal from the halfway line, but perhaps nothing is as rare as Arsenal fans agreeing with their Sporting Director about their club.
Indeed, for the past two years or so, Edu has been public enemy number one amongst a number of Arsenal supporters, and as harsh as it sounds, it’s not hard to see why.
The Brazilian has made a number of questionable signings since arriving at the club, and that’s continued this summer, but after his interview with Sky Sports, some fans actually agree with his point of view.
“Why are a few clubs around the Premier League just signing one or two players? It’s because they already have the foundation. They already have the team prepared. I’m sorry, but the reality is we don’t. Now you have to create. That is the reality,” Edu said.
That comment seemed to resonate with a lot of supporters, and they’ve been backing that statement online.
We can see where Edu is coming from, he took over a club in a period of massive transition and this is a mess that won’t sort itself out for a number of years.
It remains to be seen how Edu goes about solving the problem he faces, but at least he knows the task ahead of him.
