Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has raved about Jonjo Shelvey, as quoted in The Sun.

Howe has said that he is looking forward to working with Shelvey.

The former Bournemouth boss was recently appointed as the Newcastle manager.

The 43-year-old will not be available for the match against Brentford today, having contacted Covid-19.

What Eddie Howe has said

The Sun quotes Howe as saying about Shelvey: “I knew how good Jonjo was having played against him.

“But then when you work with him you realise he’s an incredible technician and can play all sorts of passes, long and short.

“He’s someone I’ve looked at and in terms of our philosophy and how we want to play, he’s someone who’ll be very important to us.”

Encouraging for Jonjo Shelvey

Shelvey is a very good midfielder who is a former Liverpool player.

You do not get to play for Liverpool if you are not good.

The problem with the 29-year-old is not that he has not been very consistent.

Howe clearly is a fan of the Englishman, and his lofty praise of Shelvey shows that he will get chances under him.

The former Swansea City star needs to make the most of those chances and establish himself as an indispensable figure in the Magpies’ team.

The Liverpool no. 8 has made two starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.

Shelvey made 29 starts and one substitute appearances in the league last season.

The midfielder scored one goal and gave three assists in those games.
