Chris Sutton has moved to slam Son Heung-min for his failed efforts to win a penalty for Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Antonio Conte wound up being sent off for protesting the 95th-minute winner from Harry Kane that was ultimately proven to be offside.
That sums up Tottenham’s frustrations on a night where Son also did his bit to try change the North Londoners’ fortunes.
Prior to Spurs equalising through Rodrigo Bentancur on 80 minutes, the South Korea international, a £22 million signing in 2015 [Four Four Two], saw a penalty appeal waved away.
And Sutton has slammed the former Bayer Leverkusen attacker’s theatrics, claiming that he is ‘so much better’ than such desperation.
He said to BBC Radio 5 Live [9:18 pm, 26/10]: “He also threw himself down. That’s one for the simulation game. He’s so much better than that!”
It’s been a very poor season for Son at Tottenham, you have to say.
The 30-year-old has only scored in two different Spurs appearances this season and considering he has playd 17 games across all competitions, well that sums up his woes.
He did, in his defence, score a hat-trick in one of those appearances but still, five goals in 17 outings isn’t in keeping with the Son who Tottenham supporters know and adore.
If the Lilywhites want to improve this season, Son has a massive part to play in that.
