Martin Keown has raved about Arsenal midfielder Jorginho on talkSPORT, and believes that he has been a brilliant signing for the Gunners in the January transfer window.

The Arsenal legend has said that now with Jorginho in the squad, manager Mikel Arteta does not have to rush Thomas Partey from injury.

Keown made the comments while analysing Arsenal’s win against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.

Leandro Trossard played as a false 9.

Gabriel Martinelli scored the only goal of the match in the opening minute of the second half.

Eddie Nketiah started the match on the bench.

Keown said: “I thought the move to put Trossard as a false nine was really inspired.

“Eddie Nketiah you could see against Manchester City maybe lost his way in front of goal a little bit, just needed to be brought out of the firing line.

“The way that he [Arteta] interchanges Trossard, that’s been a snip. The business that they made, Jorginho as well, he’s so intelligent with his passing.

“They could leave Thomas Partey on the bench because they knew that they’ve still got a player, they don’t have to rush him back.”

Important player for the Gunners

In our view, Jorginho has been a superb signing for Arsenal.

The Italy international midfielder has been able to make an immediate impact at the Emirates Stadium.

The 31-year-old is still at the top of his game, and given his vast experience in the Premier League, we are not surprised at all that he is doing so well for Arsenal.

Yes, Jorginho is 31 now and is not going to be in his prime for long, but Arsenal needed someone like him to come in the middle of the season and enhance the Gunners’ chances of winning the Premier League title.

And he has done just that.
