Rafael van der Vaart has been speaking to talkSPORT ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday, and he’s been praising one particular player.
Having played alongside him at Hamburg, the Dutchman waxed lyrical about Heung-min Son, throwing a number of superlatives in the 28-year-old’s direction.
TalkSPORT quote him as saying: “I played with him at Hamburg and we had such a great connection. He’s so good with both legs, he’s quick, such a nice guy as you know.”
The former Real Madrid maestro also revealed that it was Jose Mourinho – funnily enough – who told him to leave the Santiago Bernabeu, which led to him joining Tottenham.
It’s strange how things work out.
Van der Vaart also directed praise towards Harry Kane, saying that he’s been ‘so impressed’ by the Englishman and his partnership with Son.
Just imagine if Van der Vaart, in his prime of course, was playing behind the current trio of Son, Kane and Gareth Bale.
Add Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele behind him in midfield, and that makes for a truly mouthwatering front six.
Van der Vaart also told talkSPORT that he thinks Tottenham will win the north London derby, backing his former side to score three goals at the Emirates and also keep a clean sheet.
It’s good to see the 38-year-old show some faith in his former employers.
For Tottenham’s sake, let’s hope his prediction comes true!
