Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to share an interesting detail about Paulo Fonseca’s backroom staff, as his move to Tottenham edges closer.

What’s the story?

Well, Romano claims that the 48-year-old is ‘set to’ change his entire backroom staff ahead of his move to north London.

Now, that is quite a bold thing to do, especially seeing as Fonseca has never managed in England before.

Why is he doing it?

Romano writes that the Portuguese coach watched his Roma side suffer many injuries last season, and doesn’t want a repeat of that at Tottenham.

Whether Roma’s injuries were solely down to Fonseca’s staff members is a mystery, although it’s intriguing to see him think about small margins.

Romano adds that discussions over staff recruitment will soon start with the Tottenham board.

The Italian journalist also mentions that Fabio Paratici will be announced as the new Director of Football in the next few days.

Tottenham fans will love Fonseca’s decision

Some managers are absurdly loyal to their staff members, and take them absolutely everywhere.

Even Nuno Espírito Santo’s talks with Crystal Palace collapsed recently, as he demanded the club also hire his extensive backroom staff (The Athletic).

So, the fact that Fonseca is willing to come to England without any familiar faces among his staff, in the hope that it’ll help Spurs avoid injuries, is admirable.

He is clearly already thinking about how to make marginal gains at Spurs, something that the club’s fanbase will surely appreciate.

Hopefully, Fonseca finds a team of staff who can help him fire Tottenham back into the Champions League.
