Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Hugo Ekitike and his desire to play for Newcastle United.

The Frenchman has long been linked with the Magpies, and according to Bailey, the striker is very keen to head to St James’ Park this summer.

Indeed, Bailey says that unlike some targets, Ekitike has been sold on Newcastle’s project, and after watching Bruno Guimaraes settle in well on Tyneside, he’s keen to make the move himself.

What’s been said?

Bailey spoke about Ekitike’s desire to play for United.

“This is one of Europe’s best teenagers, it really is, there’s no other teenager who scored more goals last season, 10, than Ekitike in Europe’s top five divisions. In France they think he is special. It’s interesting, he’s been linked with Dortmund and every major club in Europe. But he’s always had this belief that Newcastle’s project was the right one, he’s seen Guimaraes settle well, and he really wants to play for Newcastle, which is refreshing,” Bailey said.

Will only grow

Newcastle never would have attracted a player like Ekitike 12 months ago, but after showing their ambition and helping a player like Guimaraes reach the next level, they’re now seen as an exciting club to join.

The scary thing is that the Magpies’ project will only grow from here, and even more high-profile players will be desperate to come to the north east in the future.

Ekitike is one of the first players to really have been sold on this project, but we’re certain that some even bigger names will be desperate to join the Magpies in the coming years.
