Aston Villa fans have slammed Pep Guardiola for suggesting that his Manchester City side are in an ’emergency’ because of the ‘few, few, few’ players he has available to him, as he told Sky Sports.
The Premier League champions will travel down to Villa Park on Wednesday night hoping to move to the top of the Premier League table.
Of course, that would be dependent on them picking up all three points and other results going their way.
Ahead of that match, Guardiola has spoken about the busy December period and how he has injury, COVID or suspension issues in his squad.
Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Kevin de Bruyne are touch-and-go for tonight’s game, whilst Ferran Torres and Aymeric Laporte are definite absentees.
One thing is for sure, Guardiola doesn’t have the sympathy of the Villa supporters that he is short of a few first-team players.
When you have spent hundreds and hundreds of millions on players, including the ability to put out a so-called second-string XI that could compete for the title, then such comments by Guardiola will be laughed at.
Not forgetting that they purchased a certain Grealish for £100 million and he will probably be sat on the bench tonight.
With Laporte out with suspension, it’s only a small matter of being able to call John Stones into the starting XI.
Stones is an England international and ahead of Villa captain Tyrone Mings in the international pecking order, so that just goes to show the depth Guardiola has to choose from.
Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Guardiola’s claims ahead of tonight’s match:
