Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has raved about Alexandre Lacazette, as quoted in Football.London.

Arteta was pleased with the performance of Lacazette during Arsenal’s 4-1 win against Rapid Vienna at the Emirates Stadium in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The 29-year-old France international forward scored in the 10th minute and had a good game overall.

The former Lyon star played in a deeper number 10 role, and his creativity and ability to link up with fellow attacking players was remarkable.

According to WhoScored, the Frenchman took three shots, had a pass accuracy of 80%, won two headers, took 44 touches, attempted two dribbles, and made one tackle.

Arteta has praised Lacazette for his performance against Vienna, and the Spaniard has suggested that the forward could be used in the number 10 position again.

The Arsenal boss told Football.London about Lacazette: “Yes, he played a good game in a position I think suits him. It gives him a bit of freedom. He’s really good at linking play in those positions. He worked really hard and scored a beautiful goal.”

Positive for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

Of course, it will take Lacazette a while to become a ‘proper’ number 10, but the signs are positive at the moment.

This could mean that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be played centrally instead of on the left against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby this weekend, with Lacazette deployed behind him. That could prove to be a very productive partnership.
