Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Steven Gerrard and his appreciation for Kalvin Phillips.

Aston Villa have been strongly linked with the Leeds midfielder, and according to Romano, Gerrard is a massive fan of the England international.

In fact, Romano says that Gerrard is convinced that Phillips would be absolutely perfect for Aston Villa in their midfield.

What’s been said?

Romano spoke about how Gerrard views Phillips.

“He’s really appreciated by Steven Gerrard, this is true, he’s always been appreciated by Gerrard and he is convinced that he could be perfect for Villa, but as you mention, Leeds have a project, Leeds have a serious project and if they stay in the Premier League, I’m not sure negotiating with Leeds will be an easy one,” Romano said.

Won’t be easy

As Romano says, getting Phillips out of Leeds will not be easy.

The midfielder has already turned down Villa once back in 2019, and with reports claiming that Phillips is ready to sign a new Leeds contract, it seems as though he wants to remain at Elland Road.

To be honest, we can’t blame Phillips at all. He’s a boyhood Leeds fan, and as Romano mentioned, Leeds have a project that they’re looking to build.

Gerrard may view Phillips as the perfect midfielder, but he may not get the chance to manage him at Aston Villa.
