Peter Crouch has suggested to Match of the Day 2, which was broadcast on BBC One, that Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale has learnt a new skill by developing his heading.
Bale was never particularly impressive in the air when he was a teammate of Crouch’s at Tottenham.
However, the Welshman has become a dominant force with his head now, and it is one of the strengths in his game.
Bale’s heading ability helped Tottenham claim the three points yesterday, as he scored the winner from a lofted cross from Sergio Reguilon.
And Crouch feels that Bale’s heading ability is a skill that he has added to his repertoire, rather than one he’s always had.
He said: “Oh he’s definitely improved on his heading. He wasn’t a greater header of the ball when I played with him.
“But he’s turned into a world class player and worked on his game.
“He’s realised that he’s 6ft plus, he’s big and strong. It’s a great header and it’s definitely something that he’s worked on at Madrid. He’s definitely improved.”
It is hoped that Bale’s goal for Tottenham last night can really kick-start his second spell at the club now.
The 31-year-old has made a rather slow start to life back with Spurs, but he appears to be getting sharper and sharper, and his confidence should be boosted by last night’s winner.
The three points have lifted Tottenham up to second in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
