Leeds United snapped up York City’s Ryan Edmondson on Wednesday.

York City boss Martin Gray has told the club’s official YouTube channel that he thinks Leeds United new boy Ryan Edmondson can become a Premier League player in the future.

The Whites brought in a host of first team additions over the course of the summer, but also placed a heavy emphasis on bringing in young talents for the future.

With Victor Orta in charge of transfers, Leeds brought in the likes of Bryce Hosannah, Oriol Rey, Ousama Siddiki, Adrian Balboa, Madger Gomes, Oliver Sarkic and Kun Temenuzhkov all arriving to boost Leeds’ youth ranks.

All of those players will be looking to make the step up in the coming years, but Leeds haven’t stopped there, as they also added York City striker Ryan Edmondson on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old forward has come up through the ranks with the Minstermen, and even made his first-team debut for the non-league outfit last month having impressed at such a young age.

Leeds have now moved to snap Edmondson up on a deal until 2020, handing the boyhood Whites fan a dream move to Elland Road, though he will start out in the club’s youth ranks.

Now, York boss Martin Gray has discussed the move, telling the club’s official YouTube channel that he thinks the deal is ‘fantastic’ for all involved, backing Edmondson to become a Premier League player in the future.

Gray feels that Edmondson is joining the right club given their youth setup, before praising him for being an old school centre forward who is quick, aggressive and could be outstanding in the years to come.

“I think it’s fantastic for everybody,” said Gray. “He’s definitely worthy of the opportunity to play at that level in the future as a Championship and potentially Premier League player. He’s going to the right club, the set-up and the environment he’s going to which is great. He’s a ‘Leeds boy’, which makes a lot of sense. It’s really exciting times for everyone.”

“When these opportunities come through for young players you don’t want to stand in their way. He’s got all the tools and there’s so much to work with. He’s quick and very aggressive and very much the old school. Hopefully we see an outstanding centre-forward going forward,” he added.
