Werder Bremen have been told to make a move for Liverpool’s Premier League misfit Loris Karius by former Germany international Tim Wiese, speaking to BILD, via Fussball News.

Who would have throught, nearly four years after that Champions League final, Karius would still be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad? Well, technically speaking at least.

The former Mainz ‘keeper hasn’t actually made a Liverpool appearance since a Gareth Bale thunderbolt slipped through his grasp in Kiev.

He’s spent the last few seasons out on loan, at Besiktas and Union Berlin respectively.

But, with Karius’s contract expiring in July, a permanent departure is now just a few months away.

And, with Werder Bremen well-placed to secure a return to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking, Wiese believes one of Germany’s sleeping giants should be tempted to take a punt on a 28-year-old with a real point to prove.

Goodbye Loris Karius?

“In the top flight, the club would have to look for a seasoned keeper,” says the Werder legend, who is now a professional wrestler by the name of The Machine.

Each to their own, yeah?

“For me, Loris Karius would be one for Werder,” Wiese adds: “He’s a free transfer, hasn’t played for a long time. But, in Mainz, he showed what he’s capable of.

“He’s got quality, otherwise Liverpool wouldn’t have signed him.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already admitted that the 2020 Premier League champions are not planning to offer Karius a new deal, with Coamhin Kelleher, Adrian and Alisson Becker ensuring that the Reds are currently boasting both quality and quantity between the sticks.

Karius has also been linked with a move to Bundesliga basement battlers Greuther Furth. Head coach Stefan Leitl recently described the 28-year-old as ‘undoubtedly a very, very good goalkeeper’ (Kicker).

Though Liverpool supporters still waking up in cold sweats about that night in Kiev might not share Leitl’s view.
