Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has stated that he believes Granit Xhaka is probably leaving Arsenal after his performance for Switzerland against France at Euro 2020.

Switzerland were unbelievable against the world champions earlier this week, and Xhaka was the star of the show, putting in one of the best individual performances we’ve seen at the tournament so far.

Sadly, Wright believes that Xhaka’s performance was the best he’s ever seen from the midfielder, claiming that he thinks he’ll be joining Roma.

What’s been said?

Wright expressed his frustration about the fact Xhaka has finally began to look like a brilliant player as his time in north London draws to a close.

“Can I say about Xhaka quickly. The thing is, I was delighted to see how well he played, and that’s the best I’ve ever seen him play, and all it says to me is that it looks like he’s probably going to go to Roma from my club. He’s not been my favourite player, but what we saw in that game was a complete midfielder who was used properly, seeing him play that well and knowing what we know, it’s a massive shame that we never got like that for whatever reason,” Wright said.

Typical

It would be typical if Xhaka were to join Roma and immediately become one of the best players in Serie A.

Over the years we’ve seen glimpses of brilliance from Xhaka, but nothing like we saw from him against France, and it could be a case of him feeling more free with the end of the road at the Emirates seemingly within sight.

As Wright says, Xhaka put in a complete performance against France, and we’ve rarely seen that from him in an Arsenal shirt.

So, will Xhaka be leaving? Well, Roma have been strongly linked and Wright believes it to be the case, so we have to say it’s looking rather likely.
