Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique spoke to The Daily Mail about Reds star Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard joined Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer after winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich. Liverpool fans were thrilled about the prospect of seeing him at Anfield, and after just a half of football, he showed everyone what an incredible player he is.

A creative midfielder was arguably the only missing piece in Liverpool’s outstanding squad. The Reds haven’t had a quality creator since Phulippe Coutinho, and Enrique feels that Thiago is just like the Brazilian who was a star during his time at Anfield.

He said: “He’s a phenomenal player. He’s a top midfielder but he’s also a magician in the way that [Philippe] Coutinho was. I can see him alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in midfield, and giving the team something they didn’t have before.”

“And it says a lot about where the club is right now that someone who is an important player at Bayern Munich wants to come and play for Liverpool.”

Coutinho played 201 games for Liverpool in his five-year stay at Anfield. The Brazilian scored 54 goals and provided 45 assists in all competitions for the Reds, and Barcelona decided to splash £142 million to sign him in January 2018. (BBC)

Thiago could fire Liverpool to another Premier League title

Thiago could be a better player for Liverpool than the Brazilian. The Spaniard is now surrounded by much better players than Coutinho was, and with a manager like Klopp at the helm, he could help them reach the next level.

Liverpool were absolutely outstanding last season. The Reds deservedly won the Premier League, but this season will likely be a lot more difficult.

Manchester City and Chelsea have strengthened very well and are expected to be in the race for the title. Arsenal and Tottenham have also done well in the window, while neighbours Everton have started the campaign remarkably well.

Thaigo could prove to be the difference for Liverpool this season. The Spaniard should be available for the Merseyside derby this weekend, and he could become an even bigger fan favourite if he can pull off a masterclass against Everton.
