Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has backed Heung-Min Son to be one of the stars of this World Cup.

While the focus is, inevitably, on the biggest teams heading into this tournament, there are some dark horses who could shake things up a bit.

South Korea certainly fit into that category, and according to Richards, Son could be one of the stars of the tournament.

Richards says that the Spurs attacker who can make anything happen, stating that he’s perfect for a team that plays in a defensive counter-attacking style.

Son to make a splash

Richards tipped Son to make an impact in Qatar.

“I just think he can make anything happen, We talk about Foden – he can make things happen when things are happening around him. Whereas Neymar can make something from anything, and Son can make something happen from anywhere on the pitch. He’s perfect for a team on the counter-attack just like Spurs play, so I think he can cause some damage at this World Cup,” Richards said.

Surprise package

Son really could be a star of this World Cup.

Hardly anyone is speaking about it, but South Korea could be a real surprise package here.

Kim Min-Jae has been one of the best defenders in Serie A this season, Son is one of the best players in the world, while the likes of Lee Kang-In are no mugs either having starred in La Liga this season.

As long as South Korea remain organised at the back and get the ball to Son in dangerous areas they could end up bloodying a few noses at this tournament.
