Tottenham goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini believes Cristian Romero is ready to shine in the Premier League after the duo arrived from Atalanta.
Speaking to Football London after Spurs’ penalty shootout win over Wolves, the Italian shot-stopper waxed lyrical about the 23-year-old centre-back. Both players started in the League Cup last night as Tottenham progressed to the next round of the competition.
Romero was the big-money signing of the window whilst Gollini arrived from Serie A for a reported fee of £13m. However, both players are yet to nail down a starting XI spot in Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Indeed, it has been a mixed start to the season for Spurs. The north London side have won three and lost two of their opening Premier League games.
And their upcoming clash with rivals Arsenal is beginning to feel like a defining game for this Tottenham side.
But for Gollini, Romero is a player who could push Spurs past this bad spell of form. The Italian keeper said: “This guy is an animal, I swear. He’s perfect for the Premier League.
“He’s played for many years with three at the back and especially when you play with a very aggressive style and play man-for-man, it’s a completely different to thing to in a four.”
With Romero one of the most expensive players Spurs have ever signed, the Argentine defender will be expected to deliver when the going gets tough. And whilst the centre-back will be given time to adjust, Spurs fans will be eager for the 23-year-old talent to step up in the coming games.
