Benfica manager Roger Schmidt has said that he does not want to sell Liverpool and Chelsea target Enzo Fernandez, as relayed by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
Schmidt has said that Fernandez, linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Graham Potter’s Chelsea in the January transfer window, is back in training from today.
The Benfica boss has made it clear that he does not want to let the 21-year-old Argentina international midfielder, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup, leave in the middle of the season.
Romano reported on his YouTube channel this week that although Liverpool are interested in Fernandez, club owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are not going to pay €120 million (£106 million) in transfer fees for the Benfica midfielder in the January transfer window.
Chelsea have had bids for the midfielder turned down, according to The Daily Mail.

Could a January transfer happen?
In our view, unless Liverpool or Chelsea pay €120 million (£106 million) for Enzo Fernandez, Benfica will not sell him.
It is as simple as that.
And we understand that stance.
Benfica do sell their best players for big money, but they are aiming to win the Portuguese league title this season.
The Portuguese club are also not in financial problems that they have to sell a player for a cheaper transfer fee.
So, we think that if Liverpool want to sign Fernandez, then they have to trigger his release clause.
