Former Premier League defender Micah Richards thinks James Maddison has been on fire since joining Tottenham Hotspur.
James Maddison signed for Tottenham from Leicester City and has made an instant impact in north London.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live about the attacking midfielder and Spurs as a whole, Richards said: “It’s early days, of course, but I think this is what the Tottenham fans wanted, really attacking football, and long may it continue. Maddison, he’s on fire.”
Maddison provided two assists on his Tottenham debut against Brentford before helping his new side to beat Manchester United 2-0 last Saturday.
Unfortunately for Ange Postecoglou, the 26-year-old picked up an injury in the victory over Erik ten Hag’s men and now looks like a doubt for the trip to Bournemouth this weekend.
There is so much to like about James Maddison
It is not just his ability to make things happen in the final third that is winning Maddison praise right now. Postecoglou recently hailed him for showing authority.
“I think he’s got to a stage of his career where he’s got a little bit of authority and maturity on the pitch,” the former Celtic boss was quoted as saying by football.london last month.

If Tottenham were to be without Maddison for a long period of time, it would be quite a blow. With the north London club selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and yet to replace him, they are not in a position where they can afford to have key attackers missing, which the England international has quickly become.
Tottenham definitely have enough good players to beat Bournemouth if Maddison is unavailable, but Postecoglou will be desperate to have him for the tougher fixtures that are to come.
All in all, it looks like Maddison is going to be an important figure for Spurs over the next few seasons and possibly beyond.
