Mark Lawrenson told Off the Ball that he ‘cannot believe’ Raheem Sterling could leave Manchester City amid those Tottenham rumours.

The TV pundit stated that Sterling has been ‘on fire’ at Euro 2020 and he has made it look ‘very, very easy’ in front of goal with his clinical finishing.

But it has been suggested this summer that Manchester City are looking to use Sterling as a makeweight to try and lure Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, towards their direction.

Given those rumours, Lawrenson has been left surprised as he praised Sterling for producing the goods this summer at Euro 2020.

“He has had a fabulous tournament,” said Lawrenson. “Just towards the end of last season, he was almost like the forgotten man at Manchester City.

“I cannot believe they are looking at selling him. I think that would be a backward move from Guardiola and Man City’s viewpoint.

“He has done great. He is lightning quick. He has always got himself into really, really good goalscoring positions because of his pace.

“I wouldn’t say he is a particularly great finisher. But so far, with the chances he has had, he has made it look very, very easy, so he’s on fire.”

There’s no way Man City will let their £49 million speed machine (BBC Sport) leave now, even if it was thought about previously.

Sterling has just proven why he is one of the world’s best and it could get better for the Englishman if his country lifts the Euros.

If the Three Lions actually end over 50 plus years of hurt then Sterling might find himself winning the Player of the Tournament, that’s how impressive he has been.
