Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left very concerned by Heung-Min Son’s comments to Football London about his future.
Son was asked whether he would be signing a new contract at Tottenham yesterday.
However, the £22 million South Korean (Guardian) deflected the question away – suggesting it was not the right time to be speaking about it.
“Erm, yeah it’s a bit unfair to talk about a new contract at the moment, I am focused on the games and my team and that is the most important thing at the moment,” he said.
“I’m happy to be here and I’m working hard as a player and the team. It’s a bit unfair to talk about a new contract.”
Son’s refusal to explicitly state that he will be staying at Tottenham has now worried many Spurs fans, with some suggesting that they feel something isn’t right.
Whether Tottenham fans actually need to be concerned over Son’s future remains to be seen.
The noises coming from the club have been positive, with the Athletic suggesting that Son’s contract will be sorted in time.
Jose Mourinho has also suggested that Tottenham won’t be handing out new deals until fans begin to return to stadiums and the country gets back to closer to normality.
The worries about Son’s future will continue to linger until he actually puts pen to paper though.
Son does still have over two years left on his deal at Spurs, but he is such an important player to them, that Tottenham supporters will want him to commit for the long-term sooner rather than later.
